Oncology Frontier: What do you see as the importance of the gathering together of gastrointestinal oncologists across the many disciplines in one place? What does that do for the treatment of these cancers and how does that support you all as a group?

　　Dr Mansfield: By bringing us together there is the ability to cross-fertilize ideas and to be able to develop larger collaborative studies. Something that could evolve out of this meeting (as I have seen evolve out of other meetings) is that several institutions that can then leverage the patient populations that they see in doing a study that otherwise may not be done at a single institution. There is also the opportunity to educate and share knowledge that some groups of people may not be aware of. For example， there has been a recent French study that one of the medical oncologists has brought to the forefront that has not been widely acknowledged and by quizzing the audience at the session where it was presented， it was obvious that most of the audience were not aware of the results of that study. So there is the dissemination of medical knowledge across a larger population. That is a challenging thing. If we look at a simple thing like cigarette smoking. We know that cigarette smoking is bad for people but trying to educate a population of that fact is very challenging. You can imagine that as you start to consider more technical and complex concepts and ideas， it becomes even more challenging.
